Understanding Cash on Delivery (COD) Orders
Learn how COD orders work, when you get paid, and the COD remittance timeline.
Cash on Delivery (COD) is one of the most popular payment methods in India. Understanding how COD works on destin.bio will help you manage your cash flow and avoid surprises.
How COD Works on destin.bio
When a customer chooses COD at checkout, they pay in cash to the courier agent upon delivery. The courier collects the cash, and Shiprocket remits it back to destin.bio, which then transfers your payout.
- Customer places a COD order — no payment is taken upfront.
- You ship the order as normal via Shiprocket.
- Shiprocket's delivery agent collects cash from the buyer on delivery.
- Shiprocket batches and remits the collected cash to destin.bio (typically within 7–12 business days of delivery).
- destin.bio processes your seller payout after the remittance is received.
COD Fee Structure
| Charge | Amount | Who Pays |
|---|---|---|
| COD Handling Fee | ₹20 per order | Buyer (added at checkout) |
| Platform Fee | ₹5 per order | Buyer (added at checkout) |
| Razorpay Gateway Fee | ~2% of product price + 18% GST | Seller (deducted from payout — online orders only, N/A for COD) |
| Shipping Cost | Varies by courier & distance | Seller (deducted from payout) |
| TCS | 0.5% of taxable value | Seller (deducted from payout, claimable in GST return) |
COD Payout Timeline
- 1Order delivered → Courier collects cash.
- 2Day 1–7: Courier remits collected cash to Shiprocket.
- 3Day 7–12: Shiprocket remits to destin.bio platform.
- 4destin.bio marks the order as "COD Remitted" in the system.
- 5Your payout becomes eligible for processing.
COD return refunds are handled by the destin.bio platform — you do not need to transfer anything. Once you mark the returned item as received, our team processes the refund to the buyer's UPI/bank account within 3–5 business days.
Your payout for a COD order is held until two conditions are met: (1) Shiprocket has remitted the collected cash to destin.bio, and (2) the buyer's return window has expired (default: 5 days from delivery — configurable per product). This protects both you and the buyer.
Tips for Managing COD Orders
- Keep your pickup address up to date — incorrect addresses cause failed pickups and delayed remittances.
- Do not pack fragile items in flimsy packaging — damaged deliveries result in returns, and COD returns are harder to reconcile.
- Monitor the "Payments" section in your dashboard to see which COD orders have been remitted.
- For high-value COD orders, consider asking the buyer to confirm the order via WhatsApp before shipping to reduce RTO (Return to Origin) risk.
RTO (Return to Origin)
RTO happens when a COD order cannot be delivered (buyer unavailable, wrong address, refused delivery). In this case:
- Shiprocket returns the package to your pickup address.
- You are charged a return shipping fee.
- No cash was collected, so no payout is issued.
- The product is returned to your stock.
