Why Some Items Ship by Road Only

Perfumes, aerosols and power banks can't travel by air. Here's what that means for your listings and delivery times.

Some everyday products are classed as dangerous goods for air transport - not because they are unsafe to use, but because of how they behave at altitude. They are perfectly legal to sell and ship; they just travel by road.

Which products

  • Perfumes, deodorants, body sprays and anything alcohol-based
  • Aerosols of any kind
  • Nail polish and polish remover
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Power banks and lithium batteries
  • Knives and blades

This is an international aviation rule (IATA), not a destin.bio policy. Any liquid that catches fire easily is restricted on aircraft, however it is sold.

What happens automatically

  • We detect these items when you save the listing and mark them road-only.
  • At checkout, we only accept orders to pincodes a road courier actually serves - so you won't get an order you can't fulfil.
  • When you ship, only surface couriers are shown. You don't need to do anything.

What to tell your buyers

Road delivery takes a little longer than air - typically a couple of extra days. Mentioning this in your product description sets expectations and reduces "where is my order?" messages.

💡

Your listing is never blocked for this. If we got it wrong - say your "Perfume Gift Box" is actually an empty box - contact support and we will correct it.
